Default purge flow ? and upgrade questions

im new to site I recently bought a 2002 Dakota qc 4.7l love this truck. but a week after I had it I replaced the solenoid on purge line and the ce light came back on a week later. is there a trick to findn a leak in line or checking canister to see if its shot.
also I wanna do some upgrades and wonder wat every has done to improve fuel economy. I was told there is a part from a jeep gc that u can put on Dakota to open up the 5th gear is there ne truth to that. im lookn to put new air intake and exhaust do I need to go with duals for a good sound or does it matter if I just get a less restrictive single and still get good volume.

what is the actual code you are getting? and 5 gears instead of 4 sounds great but on these trucks, i dont think its worth it as we have (2) 2nd gears, with the one you can manually shift to(correct me if im wrong) and the one the truck will downshift to being the 1.5 ratio, mainly for towing and downshifting and wouldn't increase your cruising mpg like a taller(smaller ratio) gear would such as having a 0.67:1 for cruising at 70, here is the list of ratios
1st 3.00:1
2nd 1.67:1
2nd Prime 1.50:1
3rd 1.00:1
4th 0.75:1
Reverse 3.00:1

the code im gettn is p0441. from wat ive read its a leak in the emissions somewhere and I don't a smoke tester so was wonder if nebody had ne tricks to find a leak. just tryn to save the 80 dollars I was quoted for a smoke test.
I believe just hear you are right with the specs. i was told about it and was wondering if there was ne merit to wat the guy was telln me.
do u have any thoughts on the exhaust and air intake i would def try to maximize the the truck. just got it a couple weeks ago and am looking for ideas on good ways to make it better

i just picked up my truck about a month ago, so as to the cai and exhaust, im not sure of, they are both two things i want to do to my truck but wanna hear other peoples experience about those, and with code, that is "Evap Purge Flow Monitor Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation." here are the Probable causes:

Sensor or solenoid faulty
Connector terminal contact is damaged or corroded
Wire harness - Check harness for correct voltage, open, short to ground or short to voltage
Update control unit software - Check for the latest control unit update
Powertrain or Engine Control Module faulty
Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses or improper routing
EVAP system - Check fuel cap, canister, valves or components

to check for leak, spray around the canistor with brake cleaner as it is flamible to see if the engine picks up, if it does, spray more to help pinpoint your leak, you may also be able to hear a hissing sound but it will most likely be very faint

For an intake you can get a 3" elbow and short piece of black abs pipe (looks like pvc but is black) and 2 rubber couplers and run it to the air box to delete the resonator. Then maybe just get a drop in K&N that is what I did and I am more than happy with it. I also cut the side away from the motor away from the bottom of my air box and removed the tube on the front of it, in theory it isn't sucking as much warm air from the engine like a cone filter would. The pipe and couplers are fairly cheap at a Home Depot or Lowes and just that alone is enough to un-restrict your intake. As far as exhaust get a muffler and take it to a shop to weld up some pipes. The 4.7 is a pretty good sounding motor IMO. Since I started using aCar on my phone through 122 fill ups for the Truck I have averaged 17.83 MPG. Granted mine is a 5 speed and a lot of that is HW, most of it is also with 32x11.50 Mud Terrains and the past year it has been mostly towing and crappy MPG's factored in. Hope this helps and isn't to ranty.

replaced hoses on the canister under the truck if they are soft then that is definiately your problem. I went and got the kit from the dealer and got 2 hoses in the kit one was a molded hose. The other bigger hose under there I just used heater hose to replace it.
I put zipties on the hoses too because just even a real small leak turns on the light.
