Default 2000 SLT fender rust

My fenders in the matter of a few weeks have rusted through in a small spot and about to in others. Any suggestions on how to take care of this? Someone suggested pro-sealing over it and just installing flares to hide it, but I can't really afford $300 flares right now.

You have to get rid of the rust or it will continue to eat away at your fenders. You can't just cover it or hide it.

At the minimum at least treat the rust.

There is products that can stop the rust but you not totally going to get rid of it. Your best bet is get a new fender or live with it. Both of mine where bad then I got into an accident and got a new driver side one lol

Where would I find new fenders or how would I treat it? Aside from removing, grinding, and repainting (I don't have the equipment to repaint it).

While not new you might find some in a boneyard. You might even get lucky and find the same color if you look around.

There are new aftermarket fenders too. Painting can be a problem but check around.

Won't be able to stop the rust either if it has rusted a hole. Only thing you can do is cut it out and weld in a patch panel or replace the fender.

If it hasn't penetrated the fender you can sand it down and sand blast it for best results.

You won't get the paint right but if the area is small enough you can fix it and hide the paint job with fenders. This is what I'm going to do this summer.

There is A LOT of different rust products out there. A new fender can be found pretty cheap online(80-100.00)

At the very least, sand the rust as much as you can, and go over it with some sort of 'rust encapsulator' or treater product, then go over it with automotive paint to seal it up.

besides the boneyards, i would also comb through craigslist and edbay. if you are patient, you will be able to find fenders at good price. i just pick up 2 doors for my 97 for $100 with all the trim, glass, harness, and mirrors.
