Unhappy Blower motor troubles

I drive a 99 dakota and for the last six months I have been having trouble with my blower motor. The blower will turn and blows well in all positions but the problem is that it intermittently turns on and off. One moment it will be working and the next it is off. If I get in and start my truck it might be off, then driving down the road it will just turn back on. I purchased a new blower but I'm just not sure that this is my problem. Does anyone have an idea of what it might be? My battery cables are clean and tight and when it's blowing the fan blows in all speeds. I still have the problem of the blower speeding up when I turn to the right, not sure if this will help in diagnosing my problem.

Have you checked the resistor? It's under the cowl but is a very common failure point.

I'll move this post to the proper forum.

The resistor is a major pain in the *** to get to on the older models 2000 down or 1999 down not sure exactly the years.

Cowl must be removed even then you cant see it you need to kind of lay on your back and stick your hand up and under to feel it best if you have a snake camera or mirror to get a look at it first to see if it is in need of replacing as getting it back in is harder as you cant see were the screws go its all by feel.

I think some of the newer models have a door that comes off but 97, 98, 99 are the hard ones.

Major PITA

You may have a poor dash ground look at your grounds one other thing could be the fan speed selector has melted some did you ever smell melting wires at any time in your truck that's what happened to me.

I have a good post on that fix https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...n-a-c-fan.html

Thanks for your response I will definitely check the resister. When you say under the cowl are you talking about that black plastic strip under the windshield wipers? I have never smelled wires at any time. When the blower is working the selector switch will change speeds just fine.

Yes, the strip under the wipers. It will be in there, near the RH wiper blade. It's not easy to find.

The connectors sometimes get "burnt" and cause problems.

To replace the motor, you'll be pulling the HVAC plenum so eliminate everything else first. Also double check all grounds.

You may as well check all your fuses and relays the relays are in the engine bay in the PDC power distribution center the relays are cheap just buy a new one and change out but always keep the old one it may still be good.
