Default 2003 Dak Quad Cab 4.7 replacing oil pump

Hello all.

Around 90K on my 03 QC and the oil pressure wavered a bit... check gauges light came on and my oil pressure was next to zero. Replaced the sender switch... no change. Next will be to put a manual gauge on it to confirm my worst suspicion... that I need to replace the oil pump.

If so, can others tell me specifically how difficult it is on a 4.7 liter 4X4 QC to drop the oil pan and replace the pump?

I've read a number of posts ranging from next to impossible... to difficult and time consuming but doable by mechanically inclined individuals.

Specifically looking to find out on this model what absolutely needs to be removed in order to drop the pan. I've read the engine needs to be unbolted and lifted a bit.... and I've read the lower cross member needs to be removed. But none of these posts were specifically my model make and year. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
--Rick

It's a lot of work.

You have to remove the front axle to get the oil pan off. Your alternative, pull the engine, might be easier.

The oil pump is behind the timing cover. You'll have to remove the timing chains and tensioners as well.
