Question Parking Brake Cable

I have a 2003 Dakota SXT entended cab. The passenger side cable for the parking brake keeps coming loose from the lever on the backside of the parking brake assembly. Is there any adjustments I can make to rectify this problem?

Disc or drum brakes in the rear?

It sounds like the cable may be partially frozen so it can't retract or you've got a lot of slack in it from it not being adjusted correctly.

When's the last time you checked the back brakes? They can freeze up.

The back brakes are discs with the small drum for the parking brake. Just replaced all rear brakes and rotors yesterday thinking that could be the problem. Reattached cable at that time then set parking brake and released it and the cable came off again.
