Default New Issues Cropping Up

I love this truck...what I can count on is when I fix something, something else will go wrong. My new issues are the cruise control has quit working completely, was working intermittently. the air bag light has come on and I haven't been able to track down the cause, and lastly, the delayed wipers no longer work. They quit once, started working again, and have quit again. Any thoughts? Might these issues be connected to a single cause somehow?

cruise is vacuum controlled. Does the dash light come on when you hit the button? Mine i have to mash a few times, think my clockspring is half-gone.

Airbag can be clockspring or AB unit.

wipers would be CTM

Well...here's what I have done and the results. Replaced the wiper/turn signal switch...no change, delay still doesn't work. Replaced the clock spring...no change. Air Bag light still on. Cruise control still not working...I believe the switch may have gone bad. No dash light on. The vacuum lines looks good.

Have you swapped relays in the PDC in the engine compartment? The intermittent (delay) wipers run off a relay in there that may be toast. Swap it with the horn relay and see if that makes a difference, test the horn and wipers. If the wipers work and the horn doesn't you know what the problem is. FYI if you aren't aware the relay diagram is a mirror image of what is actually there. Do you get running lights/headlights when you pull the switch for the dash lights?

gnelson49 - you are absolutely correct about the relay. I discovered that today accidently. Unfortunately, I had already replaced the switch. I swapped with another relay and delay function worked perfectly. Now I have to go into town and buy a relay (or 2 to have a spare). Thanks for the input. I had checked the wiper fuse and it was good; I didn't realize there was a separate fuse (relay) for the delay function until this morning. I can now focus on the other issues my truck has.

No...cruise still not working. I believe the switch may be bad. It just doesn't feel right when I try to turn it on. Hard to describe, but feels kind of spongy to me. The clock spring replacement fixed nothing as far as I can tell. Airbag light still on.

Make sure you match up the same part number on the cruise switch if you replace it, they look alike but there are different part numbers that aren't compatible. I made that mistake once

As far as the airbag light goes, have you checked the yellow connectors for the airbags to make sure they are plugged in properly? How about disconnecting the battery and resetting the computer, does the light come back on then?

Yeah I reset the computer when I replaced the wiper/turn signal switch and the clock spring. The battery was disconnected about an hour or so. I checked the airbag connections around the column, but haven't pulled the lower dash apart to get to the module to check those connections. Those are kind of a pain to get to I think. I tried to find a local parts store that had a scanner to read the airbag circuit, but no luck.

having same problems with my 1999 Durango. stereo buttons work opposite channel/volume. wiper delay not working tried switching relays no change. cruise doesn't work. shop where I have work done when I don't have time or the tolls said the clock spring is bad that's why the cruise doesn't work. $250 replacement. Found clock spring on rockauto for $47 compared to dealer cost $149. it appears that the clock spring could be the problem for all these issues but O'Fart said changing it didn't correct all the problems.

HELP.

Steve
