Default Replacement rear slider HELP

Where is the best place to get a new sliding rear window without breaking the bank? I've seen some on ebay. The local (ONLY) glass shop wants $425 for a new window with installation!! WOW are they really that much? They even said IF I bring them one it would be $125 forthe installation. PLEASE tell me I can get one cheaper from CRL or ??

Do you need just the little sliding window or the entire window? Either I would definitely call local salvage yards or check car-part.com.

Probably none in the local yard. But doesn't hurt to check.

Try EBay. I know, shipping's a bitch. And you can do the installation yourself. Just carefully save the window gasket, it goes back in with WD-40 and a 1/4" thick rope.

I don't know how people afford paying some shop to fix things at the $120 to $180 an hour rate they have now.

DIY is the way to go saves you a ton of money

But I would say around 80 to 90% of people are just pay some shop to do the work no matter how small the job is.

I DIY everything but the big stuff engine and trans/clutch and a few other things that need very special tools an knowledge.

My bad back dictates things also unless I want to spend the rest of my life in a wheel chair... not my option

If you only need the center slider window that is super easy to replace. Takes about 5 min. As far as the whole window It can be done by yourself but sometimes they end up leaking and you have to pay to get someone to do it anyway. I got my window replaced in my dakota for 325 at safelite insurance covered it tho

I need the entire window! Are you sure we are talking about the same thing here?? A buddy had a 98 or so Dakota parts truck that he TRIED to take the window out of, but it was all one piece. And he broke it in the process. NOT like the sliding windows of old where you had a rubber seal in a channel and glass to fit in it. This one is quite the PITA to remove even with all the glass broken out of it!! Seems like some have a different view of what these windows are like??

Default sawzall is your friend

Arm yourself with a sawzall with an attachment scraper like device from lowe's, home depot, harbor freight and a utility knife. This takes time but, carefully remove all the urethane from everything but the corners. Then use your utility knife and or piano wire which can be found at harbor freight for around 25 dollars. Remember when replacing with another window to clear all the urethane from both the glass and the window opening and prime any rust spots before installation. Then use a quality urethane either fast set "professional" or regular set. Put in place and use masking tape " auto body quality only" to hold it. Do not drive the vehicle for at least 24 hours. Check your urethane package for exact times and let it harden and seal. Do not hammer with anything including your hand and let the yrethane seal itself. Almost forgot lay a continuos bead of eurathane with no gaps meaning make sure it is in a continuos circle all around. Good luck and times 2 on the boneyard.
