Not sure what the clutch fan is? I know my fan spins all the time while engine is on. I have tried to wash out the crap, but really most of that is bent fins. The bottom is the worst , but I forgot to get a pic.

There is a clutch on the fan. Yes, it will spin all the time but the clutch "slips" so it doesn't always go as fast as the water pump. Usually you'll hear it "roar" when it engages. There is a thermostat in the clutch to control the lockup.

Going up hills, hot, it should have engaged. It really bogs down your truck when it does.

With the engine cold, spin the fan fast. If it spins easily the clutch is bad.

The electric fan supplements the engine driven fan when the a/c is on.

Oh yea I hear it roar quite a bit. I think the issue is the fins in the a/c though.

that is the exact same setup on my 01 durango with the 5.9.
i would highly recommend a power flush if you haven't done that yet.

however. if you have to change things. it isn't that hard, but you do have to be careful with a few things. and you won't need very many tools either. since i just changed my rad and tranny cooler last week. i now know.

new rad from the shop 180.00 with tax and limited life time warrenty
tranny cooler 105.00 off ebay free shipping and 1 year warrenty. (doorman direct fit)

if you have any questions, i will be willing to tell you want i did to make things easier.

Looks like the A/C cooler or A/C Condenser is smashed up good preventing good air flow if you could get the A/C Condenser fins fixed it may help with the over heating.

A good power wash of the A/C Condenser would help get rid of all the dead bugs clogging it up.

A heavy duty Rad may be a good idea.

You're not missing the fan shroud are you?

Ok so it is the ac condenser that is smashed up, how hard is it to replace? The rad looks almost perfect same with the trans cooler!

If anyone has instructions of how to replace it that would be great.

Most likely you aren't replacing the condenser yourself.

You need to first recover all the refrigerant from the system, it's illegal to just vent it to the atmosphere. Second, after you replace the condenser, you'll have to evacuate the system of ALL the air, add the proper quantity of compressor oil, and then recharge the system.

Try and bend the fins back. Any good parts store should have a "fin comb."

Its amazing how bugs smashing into the A/C Condenser can damage it so much. my A/C Condenser is smashed almost as bad I say almost I have combed it some with ok results.

Removing and replacing it is not all that hard but you need to remove the bumper to do it correctly

I wouldn't call it hard but you need to do as 00DakDan says.

I would also suggest if going that far replacing your rad with a better model especially if its never been replaced.

Have you replaced the thermostat ever on your truck or tried a 180 instead of the stock 195?

This may be a quick workaround till a new Rad and A/C condenser

Power flushing the Rad and Power blasting all the Dead Bugs out of the A/C condenser with a 180 stat may be the quick simple cure
