Default 2wd to 4wd questions

If I converted my 2wd to 4wd would the 2wd computer work with the 4wd setup? If I do convert it to 4wd the biggest tires I want to run for awhile will be 35s. Can I get enough lift out of the stock 4wd suspension to fit 35s with little to no rubbing? Or I could do a small SAS and convert the lug pattern while I'm at it. If I put a rear end from a different truck in it what would I do about ABS? And could I put a switch in to disable ABS while I'm wheeling? What would be easier and cheaper, converting to lifted stock 4wd or a small SAS? And I want some suggestions for wheels.

Doing an SAS would be MUCH easier (and better) than trying to install all the factory 4x4 stuff.

You can run adapters on the rear to match the front lug pattern (what I did for a while), or you can install a rear end from something else that already matches (what I have now).

If you find a new rear end with a speed sensor, you can probably adapt it. I just disabled my ABS altogether, since I don't really like it anyway.

Another option is to have your rear axles and drums/rotors redrilled to the same pattern as the new front axle. That might be the cheapest and easiest option if there's nothing wrong with your current rear end.

The problem is that I have a 8.25 rear with 3.55 gears. I could probably yank the front suspension out from under a 4X4 dak at a local junk yard. But I think I would rather SAS it though. Do you have a thread on your truck?

My SAS thread

I have an "extra" 8.25 rear end in my garage (the one I took out when I put the Chevy rear in) with 4.10 gears and an Auburn posi that I've been trying to get rid of since I took it out. I'll make you a killer deal.

Do you know an approximate price? How much lift do you have and what size tires?

Price for the rear end? Cheap. Probably less than the shipping. Price for the SAS? I didn't keep track, but probably $3k. I'd say it's about 7" of lift and has 35" tires now. Those are 33s in my sig pic.

I meant price for the SAS. I don't blame you for not keeping track. I would rather not know how much I spent on something. Have a pic of it with 35s? Do you have a general list of parts to?

There's a picture in my gallery with 35s, I think. A very general parts list is:

Dana 44 from 83 Jeep J10 pickup
Ramcharger 2.5" lift springs
Crossover steering w/Wagoneer dropped Pitman arm
4.10 gears w/Spartan locker
Stock Ramcharger rear springs and shackle flip
14–bolt semi-floating rear end w/4.10 gears and Yukon Dura-Grip

Does the 7 inch lift accommodate the 35s good or would 8 inches be better?

Tires don't rub at all, even when it's flexed out. I did move the front axle forward one inch, though. I wanted to keep it as low as possible.
