I know it's not a dakota, but my fiancé has an '01 Prius that needs work. It needs a new exhaust and catalytic converter. Also needs new front brakes.

I was quoted 1700 for everything. Does this seem right?

 

Depends how much is getting replaced. Seems expensive to me. Gonna have about 200.00 into the cat. I'd say about 200 or 300 into piping. Then depends if the muffler needs replaced. Id say no more than 700 and to me thats on the high side. You getting work done at a dealer or exhaust shop?

 

If you really want my opinion. I say get a real car.

I think that price is a little on the high side.

Do the front brakes yourself if you can. Pretty simple job, and take a cat to an exhaust shop and have them do the pipe work too.

Looking around $500-800 all in Id say. Don't know what labour charges are in your area.

 

Buy what you can and bring it to the shop. You can usually buy it on your own a lot cheaper.

 

Thanks guys. Labor charges around here are normally around 100 per hour. Pretty pricy in Massachusetts.

 

1700 is out there a little. Have you priced this at a place like Mieneke or an exhaust shop?

A lot of shops around here either won't install parts not supplied by them, or won't warranty their work if they do.

It would be sort of like buying a steak at your local discount grocery store and bringing it to a restaurant so they can cook it for you. Let's just say they're not going to give you a free dinner if you complain that the meat was tough.
