Default Need some help quick tire flew off

Was driving down the highway and my wheel studs sheered right off. The tire then flew off. It rode on my rotor until I came to a stop .

How hard would this be to fix on the side of the road?
What needs replacing ?

Its not an easy fix I have replaced a number of studs in the last two years rear and front not fun.

I don't see how you drove it on the rotor as if the studs sheered off the rotor would go also??

It may be hard to get the correct studs I had problems finding them had to order them online.

I was not thinking replacing the hub not the rotor would be the fastest but not practical on the road

Looks like you need a tow truck

The studs all broke right where they go through the hub. So it was sitting on the rotor.
It must have been over torqued or something.
Got it towed to the nearest town... Now have to fix it in a parking lot

You never noticed any noise or vibrations before it happened or weird steering?

Mine always vibrates over 100 from hard sand in the wheels.

I managed to get 4 wheel studs from the auto store and drive it home. Think it needs a rotor though its pretty beat up

I also thought you meant front, seeing as only 04 dakotas have rear disk.

Impressive you could replace the studs in place- did you pull the diff cover and E-clips to remove the axle, I assume? I dont see how else you could press the new studs in.

I assumed it was a disc as I had never checked . So we bought a hammer and punch and tapped the broken studs off. You can then send the new studs through and use a lug nut and washers to pull the stud through
