Default Bump Stop Replacement

I own a 2004 slt 2wd std cab w/2.7 engine and auto trans. Probably the most trouble free vehicle I've ever owned.
The bump stops mounted on the front lower A-arm have deteriorated and need to be replaced. They consist of the typical rubber cone that is mounted in a steel cup that is, in turn, riveted to the A-arm. At first, I thought they were bolted on and asked the local Dodge dealer for a parts quote ($33.00 each). Now I'm not sure what part they were quoting on.
Looks like there are two options: Replace the whole A-arm (assuming the bump stop comes mounted to it) or grind off the rivets and replace with an after market stop. I've done some internet searching and haven't yet found what looks like a suitable replacement.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I do believe the 2004 has the same style of bumper stop as my 1998 as long as its a 2wd model that is. I have looked long and hard for replacements for my Dak. The dealer price is not bad and the exact replacements. You don't need to cut off the old cup what you do is pull out the old rubber/whatever its made of one then push the new one in the cup.

98DAKAZ,
Thanks for the photo. I kind of assumed that that is what they would look like since the cup is riveted in place. $33 is awfully high for a chunk of rubber. Wouldn't be too bad if it was for two. I'm probably going to be forced into it, however.
Thanks again.

For what it may be worth I had the same problem not long ago with my own bump stops. They were worn out and chipped away pretty badly. I took a hammer and chisel and chiseled the mounting cups off the control arms, drilled out the rivets and then drilled a single hole between the rivet locations to mount an aftermarket poly-urethane universal bump stop. Worked out just fine and they cost about $14.00 each if I remember it right. Any parts store should have universal bump stops in stock. I bought mine at Advance, these are the ones I used:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...Term=bump+stop

Do a Google search for Advance Auto Parts discount codes and you may come up with a code to save $10.00 off a $30.00 purchase, making them even cheaper. No way would I pay $33.00 each at the $tealer when the aftermarket ones cost a lot less and work just as well if not better. It was more work to install them but that is OK with me.

I cant see going through all the hassles of cutting and drilling in a cramped space just to save $40 if it saved me $100 maybe but $40 no.

Its all a matter of what you want to do

There was a time, not too many years ago, that I would have crawled under there, drilled those suckers out, bolted in the after markets, and called it fun and a victory over the OEM thievery. My brain would still call it fun. My body, not so much. I think I am going to have to swallow hard and pay the bucks for the OEMs.

While writing this, I got a reply from a supplier I queried saying that the $33 price is for a pair. They look the same. I've got to double check with them about fit and with the local dealer about price. I'll let you know what I find.
