Default Need a 4.7L for a 00 what works?

I just picked up a 2000 Dakota ext cab 4x4 4.7L but it has a blown engine, I am in the process of trying to find one to replace it with but im having trouble getting solid information about what years will actually swap, can anyone here tell me how many year options I have ?

The issue is the "tone rings" on the cam and crankshaft.

2000, 2001, and most 2002's will work. The problem in '02 is that some engines have the later model tone rings. You can open the engine and swap them but it does involve pulling the crankshaft.

If you see the engine in the truck, you want one that has 3 connectors on the PCM - that's a JTEC controller (what your '00 has). If it has 4 connectors it's an NGC controller and you have the tone ring problem.

Don't forget about a Jeep or Durango.

Thanks for the info Dan, what about the 4.7's from the Rams, would it be the same issue, or did they even put them in the Full size trucks in 2000?

I don't think the 4.7 was offered in a Ram until '02.

It'll be an issue with any 4.7 around that time period.

Looking at the PCM is the easy and fast way to tell.
