i got the switch resistance info from a dealer. the switches I have are showing no good according to that info. I plan on piggybacking the new brake switch in line without cutting off the old plug. Will see if I can find some good switches at the junk yard now that I know what the resistance is supposed be

real quick before I go to the junck yard. this is what the dealer gave me. I did not get anything for no buttons pushed.
on= 909 +- 9
set= 6650 +- 66
resume 15400+- 154
cancel = 0
coast = 2940 +-29

can anyone else confirm this for a 98 or 99

I don't have that info.

I do agree your current switches are bad.

well I think I checked 4 or 5 sets of junk yard switches from 98-01 Dakotas and durangos. None had 900ohm on the on/off switch. and none had zero on the cancel. I can't get my money back, so I picked a new set and installed them. still no cruise and no dash light.
Does the signal go through the switches first then the brake light switch or the other way around.????
I will work on piggybacking the 99 brakelight switch in there tomorrow. but I don't think that is it. I think there is something keeping the whole thing from turning on. I am working on getting some new switches and not installing them just getting the ohm readings and then returning them. but the local parts houses only have the rh switch, not the left on/off/set

I am still looking for a no push ohm reading

The signal does not go through the brake switch at all for the switches. The power to the servo goes through the brake switch.

The '00 schematic is attached.

is there supposed to be any voltage coming into the switches at the steering wheel. Specifically the on/off/set switch? and how should I check for voltage there, without blowing up my new computer???

thanks

Yes there should be voltage, I think 5v.

A digital multimeter should be OK to use to measure it.

Just read through your whole thread and I might be able to offer some assistance. I have a 98 5.2L V8 Dakota 5 speed WITH cruise. My cruise has been acting up intermittently (gives a P1595 code) and I am in the process of getting some switches pulled from a yard to replace/troubleshoot. I have already replaced the servo and check continuity between the switches and the PCM, so trying the switches next as sometimes my on/off won't work. Other times the cruise just randomly disengages and won't re-engage.

Here is something very important about the 1998 vs. 1999 and up switches. The part numbers for the 1998 switches must be 56021332 and 56021333. The 1999 and up switches are part numbers 56021332AB and 56021333AB and will not work on the 1998. Trust me I learned this the hard way, I installed the wrong ones and they won't even light up the cruise indicator on the dash. The 1999 switches have a 3 wire pigtail that doesn't work with the 1998s (extra green wire). Your 1998 should have a 2 wire pigtail to each switch, a black and a white wire. Definitely pull your switches off the truck and make sure the part numbers match. Have you checked your servo to make sure that works as well? Let me know what you come up with related to the part numbers and I can try to help you as best I can. I will be pulling my switches off again once I receive the right pair and I can test resistance in both sets to help you as a reference.

Sorry for the delay. I have been busy with another diesel conversion project. The little dodge is running, and the cruise is not super high priority.
I think I have '99 switches, with the '99 PN you described. But both of my switches have 2 wires. I did look at a "98 switches and they were the same as the ones I got. I tested probably 5 switches with my Ohm meter, and None matched what the dealer gave me.
But I welcome your help. I still want to verify what the voltage should be at the on/off left side switch. Also how should I test the servo?

thanks
