cv axle problem

Default cv axle problem

Am new to this so if I post in the wrong area please let me no...I have a 2000 dodge dakota 4x4 with a 4.7 v 8 I had the passenger side cv axle replaced and a little while later I was hearin a noise again took it to a local parts store they informed me it was the bearins so I proceeded to purchase a hub assembly to replace sense I was I formed the bearins cudnt just b replace so in doin this I discovered it wasnt rhe hub assembly makin the noise it was the cv axle which was nearly fallin off from the trans side so I made a few calls in which i was told I cud completely remove the cv axle and leave out with no problems just wudnt have four wheel drive so I didnt put it bck but i did go ahead and replace the hub assembly sense I had it anyway made sure everything was tight replaced the tire and backed out of the drive way went mayb 5 feet and something broke got out tire was still bolted on hub assembly was broke bearing everywhere now did I get a bad sub assembly as sum say or could I not leave the cv axle out as I was told....any help wud be so great thanks ahead of rime

You cannot leave the cv axle out or it will do what happened to you. Without the cv axle nut the hub is supported by only 3 small bolts...not good.

Agreed. You need to replace the CV axle, and now the hub, as well.

DO NOT DRIVE WITH NO CV AXLE.

Who ever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about.


That video couldn't have explained it better.

Best part is... the vehicle you see is another DAKOTA!
