Default question about bypassing a/c compressor

I want to know if it's possible to bypass the a/c compressor in my 2003 Dodge Dakota 4.7 does anyone have any info on this?

No the 4.7 is different. Not sure how the delete functions. Why are you removing the compressor?

In terms of the physical set up I know you need to buy a shorter belt, or buy a bracket with a pulley on the end to mimic the AC pulley... seen them on RockAuto.

For the electrical aspect I'm not sure. You may get a CEL for not having the connector attached. There may be a trick around this like installing a resistor or something but I still think a signal would need to be set to the PCM so you may need a reflash IF it does throw a code. The plug could simply be the power AC on/off switch.

electrical is just the A/C clutch. PCM doesn't check it for a status answer i don't believe.

I would think the same thing too, but just to be safe I thought I might mention it.

So the physical setup would be the only thing to worry about. Should be pretty straight forward.

Flippin autocorrect.

I don't see the purpose in removing it. with the clutch disengaged, nothing is turning, the pulley is just turning on it's carrier bearing.

Maybe his compressor seized, or the bearing on the clutch. I had that happen a few years back.

The '00 parts book list the same belt number 53032125AB whether it has a/c or not.

I don't believe it.

I unplugged mine in my 98 cause I could feel it drag the motor down when it kicked in.

This guy just routed his belt different

If you dont like that idea you could spend the 60.00 on a bypass pulley.
