Lift
Body lift
Pros:
Inexpensive
Relatively easy to install
Gives more fender clearance for larger tires
Doesn't change ride quality or alter suspension in any way
Cons:
Doesn't add any "real" ground clearance other than from bigger tires
Can interfere with engine cooling, shifter operation, fuel filling (these problems
have pretty much been worked out if you buy a good kit)
May require additional parts to look "right" (gap covers, rear bumper brackets)
Suspension lift
Pros:
Adds "real" ground clearance
Torsion bar key/block lifts are very inexpensive and easy to install
Doesn't mess with radiator brackets, shifters, steering column, or fuel filler
Doesn't require bumper or radiator relocation brackets
Cons:
Torsion bar key/block kits limited to about 2", can be hard on front end parts
Tires still hit fenders unless bump stops are moved
Only "real" suspension lift available is the Tuff Country 5.5" kit
Tuff Country 5.5" kit limited to models with steering box, no R&P kit available
Tuff Country kit is more difficult to install than a body lift.
Tuff Country kit is expensive
I'm sure I left out a few things, but you get the idea. If three inches of lift is enough for you and you're on a budget, the body lift is a clear choice. You can always add the torsion bar keys and rear blocks or add-a-leafs later for a total of about five inches. That should allow you to run 33s pretty easily and look good, too.
