I think this case started as a compromised head gasket or cracked block, allowed water in the oil, water/oil circulated through engine, was in #6 rod journal at shut down, water froze within journal, cracked rod/displaced rod bearing, then melted, and now you have something compromised down at the #6 rod bearing.

Or a bad head gasket allowed coolant into the cylinder when it was shut down. The next time he tried to start it it bent the rod and damaged the bearing.
