hey,
i have a noise in the rear, i checked my rear diff, its fine, the noise happens on 2x4 but goes away when the 4x4 is activated.
ill go troubleshoot some more but it be sweet to know what you guys think is causing this.

If the sound goes away when 4x4 is active, are you sure it in the rear diff? sounds to me more like an issue in the transfer case when the front axle is just rollin along.

Have a friend follow along side and see if he can hear where the noise is comming from. have him pull up from bumper to bumper. Or at a safe speed pass him and see if he can hear anything as you pass.

Just a thought.

 

its actually from the front. put new oil in front diff. wd40 my u joints, checked the shift linkage. all seems good for my knowledge as an electrician, unless there are suggestions, itll have to go to mechanic.

its a grinding noise that seems to be under the front diff.

 

It's very likely the u-joint or the cv joint in the front driveshaft. WD-40 won't do anything. Rebuilt driveshafts are readily available.

You can remove it and drive with out it if you want to test it.
