Default Transmission question.

Alright, i got a 1998 dodge dakota ext cab with the 3.9l v6. im curious to know what transmission is in it. from what i've dug up here i found that there are 3 trannys that were used. but i'm not sure how to identify what one i have.
Can someone give me some insight on how to find out?
thanks.

-Dakota.

Is it an auto or manual?

Might be a sticker in your door seam or in your glovebox.

You can also take the last 8 digits of your VIN and go to the Chrysler website and request your vehicle build sheet. It'll tell you everything your truck has.

If its an auto its likely the 42RE.

Or you can send me a pm with the last 9 of the vin and I can tell you. I agree an auto would be either a 42 or 44RE.

Glove box lists lots of info. Should have it in there but im betting its a 42re. Im guessing you are asking about the auto as there are only 2 manuals for the dakota

3.9 = 42re
5.2 = 44re
5.9 = 46re
