I have a 2002 quad cab with a tailgate that appears to not be latching on the left side. The right side appears to latch. I don't believe it is a rust issue. When I open the tailgate, work the handle to open it the mechanism does move. Any ideas on what to do?

 

Take the latch off. Remove the bolts through the back and you'll be able to move the handle out of the way to unhook the two rods that work the locks.

I found mine full of road dust a few years ago and only one side would catch. The other side couldn't return so the latch wouldn't engage. Make sure the latches are lubed as well.
