Default Electrical problems with the Ignition Starter fuse and Back lights

Strange problem that is driving me nuts. Back lights stay on when the engine is turned off. The right blinker works, Left blinker does not work, and the flasher does not work either. Now come the interesting part. Check the relay fuse, the brake pedal switch and the ignition switch, and the bulbs. No Luck . BUT when I take out the starter ignition fuse, everything works fine. Does anyone have any ideas what else I can do. There seems to be 2 fuses for the ignition.

Hi Cconti,

Welcome to the forum.

What year is your Dakota? Engine, tranny, and body style too please.

It sounds like a bad ground.

Thanks Dan Its 1997 Dakota 4 wheel drive. Automatic. Narrowing it down to the ignition starter fuse is hopeful. But still no luck

Wiedest thing but could be random, when I leaned on the drivers seat, the lights would flicker. Not any more but they did. I could not find any wires under the rug or in the vicinity

I need you to clarify a few things. Remember, we can't see it.

By back lights do you mean the brake or tail lights?
What do you mean "relay fuse?"
Flasher - the hazard flasher?
When you take the fuse out and everything works correctly, is the engine running (I'm thinking not running)?
