A bad connection can overheat. Are you running the OEM bulbs or something different?

OK, you have the stock bulbs (OEM).

It could just be a bad connection at the switch. Over the years they get hot, oxidize a bit, and that increases the resistance.

Check the connector. Make sure it's clean and tight when it goes onto the new switch.

Could also make sure the ground are getting good connection.

And as ACDC saids loose wires cause fires.

Anytime you have burned wires or connectors like that it means somewhere in that circuit you are drawing too much current. You can replace the connector plug and the switch but to permanently fix the problem you need to get a wiring diagram and find out what circuits or components are associated with the burned wires. Then troubleshoot the current draw problem from there. Use a good digital volt meter and an ammeter to isolate the problem. Otherwise you may have this same problem again soon.
