Default HVAC control question

As some of you know I am planning on removing the electronics from my truck. I got to thinking. Are the HVAC controls hooked to the computer? Or can I wire the conrols to work by themselves? If I need new control what should I get?

On the '01 the HVAC controls are on the PCI bus. The mode doors are electronic but I don't know if it will work stand alone or not.

I would say I'm a decent engineer so I could probably build a mechanical setup. What could I do besides mechanical?

There's always a way to replace the existing actuators. You could go vacuum or use a different servo on the existing blend/mode door.

I'll take another look at the wiring diagram tomorrow, I don't have access with me tonight, to see how it ties into the rest of the bus.

There are two sensors that tie into the hvac control. The ambient temp sensor and the evaporator temp sensor. The PCM does the actual cycling of the a/c compressor so that sensor data must go over the PCI bus.

The other problem would likely be calibrating the mode/blend doors. Without using a DRB there is no procedure listed to show how to do it.

2000 and earlier would be easy with the vacuum operated controls. Unfortunately the HVAC housing won't fit your dash.

I don't have pictures. You could possibly modify it. A trip to the boneyard might provide some more information.

The a/c, if you want it, is easy. There is no problem bypassing the PCM with it.

Would it be possible to transplant the vaccum unit from back of 2000 or earlier controls and put them on mine?
Sent from my ipod where everything is hard to type and I may or may not be in class
