Default new to dodge.. need help and info

i got this 97 dakota v8 auto trans 4x4 on a trade and the trans acts like it stays in 3rd. occasionally it feels like it starts in 1st for about 2 seconds then goes straight to 3rd. check engine light is on and took it to autozone and the guy said it wasnt showing any codes. after about a week i went to oriellys and they pulled a few codes. p1762, p1763, p0783, p0740, and p0132 is what they printed out. checked the connections and wires on the trans as far as i could see and feel and all seemed fine. somebody said the dakotas had a 5.2 and a 5.9 v8 but not sure if thats right or which is in mine. not sure what transmission is int it either. some info on the engine size and trans would be appreciated. Q: would the trans problem be from something else other than the solenoids or am i going to have to replace them all and hope it fixes it?

Welcome to the forum Bradz!

P0132 - 1/1 O2 sensor shorted to voltage.
P0740 - torque converter clutch, no RPM drop at lockup
P0783 - 3/4 shift solenoid, no RPM drop at lockup
P1762 - Governor pressure sensor offset volts too high or too low
P1763 - Governor pressure sensor volts too high

It could be a 5.2 or the 5.9. It should say on an emissions decal under the hood OR if you look at the 8th digit in the VIN "Y" is the 5.2, "Z" is the 5.9.

If you have the 5.2 it should be the 44RE transmission, if it's the 5.9 it would be the 46RE.

I'd say you have several problems with the transmission. The governor pressure sensor does appear faulty to start.

thanks for the info 00dakdan. the vin is y so it should be the 5.2. would the 44re bolt to a 5.9 or the 46re to a 5.2 with no problems? the truck says it has over 300,000 miles so i don't think it would be the original engine. haven't really looked under the hood too much just to be looking so is there somewhere on the engine its self that says what size it is? could the trans codes just be from a bad pcm or other sensor like a speed sensor or is it completely transmission related? and last thing for now.. would the solenoids or valve body from a 46re work in a 44re without doing any modifications to anything?
