I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7L QC 4X4 with 182K miles. Out of the blue a month and half ago I got P 0505 error code. Had the typical high RPM's and very bad mileage. Replaced the IAC, TPS, two vacuum hoses, cleaned the throttle body on the engine and ran sea foam in the gas and crank case. Truck ran great after that up to two weeks ago and it all started again. Is it possible the IAC or TPS are bad or should have i taken off the throttle body off to clean or is something electrical. I checked the voltage on the IAC and TPS all in range. I was told by the sales guy at Napa the PCM might be the issues. Any suggestions will be helpful.

50% of the time it's the PCM


20% it's deposits piled up on the end of the IAC


20% it's a wiring issue.




10% somebody jacked with the throttle plate screw (that shouldn't be messed with)




There IS a diagnostic test for every code. Maybe Napa can print that off for you from Alldata?

 

Thank you for the responses. I'm thinking electrical or PCM. Not sure about the throttle set screw I have never touched it and honestly don't know how to set it or where it's located. I did have it at the dealer the day before all of this started 2 months ago to replace the CJ joint but can't image they would do anything to my truck.

 

They might have disconnected the battery when they replaced the CV joint. Check the battery connections and make sure they are clean and tight. Dakota's hate it when the voltage is even a bit low.

If they look OK, disconnect the battery again and pull the connections on the PCM. Make sure they are clean and dry. It's not uncommon for oil to wick it's way up there from a bad power steering switch.

You may also just have a bad IAC motor.
