Default Cab swap from '02 V6 2WD to a '99 V8 4WD

Hi,
Forum newbie here. I have searched for this and can't seem to find this exact question asked. I have a low miles '99 V8 4WD Dakota that looks like this:

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/attachm...2&d=1407080121

I also have a '02 V6 2WD with a decent cab and box. I want to swap the cab, interior and all, onto the '99 V8 4WD. Both trucks are automatics, both sitting in my yard and both in running condition. Is it a straight swap? Are the wiring harnesses the same? What problems might I encounter? I don't care if it takes 6 months of Sundays. Any help, thoughts or links or diagrams, would be greatly appreciated.

it is doable, but the wiring is much different as are the HVAC control systems.

I think you would be better off just getting the 99 cab fixed if its possible that is.

I believe HVAC went from mechanical actuation to electric and communications bus went from 1 wire to 2 wire or vice versa. The HVAC duct won't transfer (fit issues) and the 2 communication protocols aren't swappable (though it's possible you could transfer the dash, CTM, and related wiring harnesses between the 2 cabs).

Magnet is correct about the electrical changes. The '99 will have a 2 wire CCD computer bus. The '02 will have a single wire PCI bus. They are not compatible. You'll end up swapping everything, PCM, CTM, ABS, TCM, etc.

I assume you are NOT changing engines around. What engine is in the '99? If it's the 5.2 you won't find a PCM for it in '02. A 5.9 will work but the fuel trims will be off. You'll likely need a custom flash.

The HVAC is electronic in the '02 and the heater/ac plenum is different.

I assume you're going to keep the floor shifter and not use the electronic 4wd shifter the '02 would have.

Thanks for your replies guys. The '99 is a 5.2 4WD. The '02 is 3.9. 2WD. I would keep the floor shift and cut the hole. It sounds like strip the '99 cab, dash and harness, and put it in the '02 along with a heat/ ac plenum graft?

And the engine compartment harnesses.

I'm thinking take the CCD bus everything off the bad cab (CTM, ABS, and dash + harnesses), and swap it in the good cab. No need to change the underhood harness.

The HVAC will be interesting as the vacuum controlled (IIRC) air hood in the passenger floorboard will not fit where the electric air hood goes in the newer cab. You might be able to make something work though, if you look at it long enough.

If I change complete dash assemblies will the vacuum airhood fit in the newer cab? Is this a bracket issue/ mounting issue/ clearance issue? I don't mind swapping the whole interior from one cab to another. If it's a straight nuts and bolts swap of components I can do it in time.

The vacuum style HVAC plenum in the '99 will not fit the '02 dash.

The underhood harness is different, not just due to the extra cylinders but the wiring for the headlights, etc, is all run via the CTM in the '02 and isn't in the '99.

There are major changes in both the power distribution center and the junction block.
