well something is weird as its not working and unless you had some wires pulled out a fuse is what makes sense.

How's the water temp sensor wires?

you kept saying to swapped relays, i don't see where you checked the fuse.

If you pull the relay with the engine on, you should have one ground (coil) and 2 power sources (coil side from ASD and hot side from fan fuse) and one pole with continuity to the fan pigtail. Have you checked this? If you check with engine off, the coil side will be cold since the ASD will be deactivated.

You can always upgrade to the newer efan that's my plan you just need to make some kind of mount for it should be easy the connector needs changing also.

The 2000 and up 2.5 came with this fan and keeps it cool as good or better than the old style fan.

A 2000 2.5 with the bigger efan

That's the factory Efan that all the post-00's came with. Comes on with AC or at 210.

That's correct the 2.5 has only an efan I have a friend with this fan and he says its works great for the 2.5 he saw a 210 temp one time and he lives in HOT Bakersfield CA. he doesn't even use the fan shroud its not needed as the 2.5 usually doesn't tend to over heat unless you get stuck in a lot of city stop and go traffic.

If you drop in a 180 stat it will run nice and cool for you

The oem fan is at rockauto for around $75 look under a 2000 2.5 Dakota it will show this fan as the stock fan not the chunky old style one you and I have.

magnethead on the 2.5 the fan will come on at a lower temp or the A/C not 210 the PCM is different for a 2.5 Dak Im guessing it turns on around 195 same as the stock stat.

I don't think the 2.5 PCM waits till 210 to kick in as the efan is the only thing cooling the engine as the 2.5 has no mechanical fan if it waited till 210 my Dakota would overheat all the time.

I could be wrong but it doesn't make sense to wait till its almost overheating to kick in as the efan is its only cooling source other than airflow from driving that is.

I do remember when I lived in the Big city stop and go traffic sitting waiting for a green it would get a bit hot at times and I blew up three rads in the first 4 years. Now that I'm in Arizona I use the A/C all the time so it kicks in ASAP and my Dakota actually runs cooler in HOT Arizona almost no stop and go traffic like California Madness.

I do miss the perfect SOCAL weather though and the winter rain
