Slide after cleaning with file.

caliper on truck

So, here is the photo I said I was going to post (I know, quickresponse time!), one photo is of the caliper on the truck, the other is withthe steering knuckle on the bench after the slides were cleaned up with a file. There are two divots where the brake pads ware into the slides and prevent thecaliper from sliding, also causing the outside of the caliper to sage and causethe outside spring to touch the rotor hub. (A grinding sound can be heard).

Some people weld the divots in then smooth them out with a file or grinder.

I don't have this issue with 253K on my 03' QC. What brand of pads are you using? Could it be possible that they are just a bit wider where the points slide along the caliper? Maybe you should file the top end of the pad and see if that relieves the downward pressure on the bottom. I'll also check mine again as I could swear there was a metal clip that covers that area, which the pads slide on horizontally (which the Dak was mentioned as not having, earlier).

Well looking at the ton of crud on that caliper that could be contributing to the problem. But it just happens that's all, my Dakota had the same problem just not as bad I think the brakes just start binding and it just gets worse as time goes by.

The 03 has different caliper brakes supposedly better non binding.

Upgrade to 2003 Durango or 2003/04 Dakota Brakes. The 2002 and earlier brakes SUCK! Of course, you have to change everything. That's a good time to replace the ball joints, tie rods, and bushings.
