Replace the axle - I think they are $80 or so on Rockauto.

You only "need" to replace the half-shaft on the side that broke, they are not connected to each other. The shallow/deep snap ring does not apply to your year truck.

I'll ask, how did you break it?

I was in the mud with some deep ruts. i flexed my CV joint in 4x4 too far and it broke. brought it to my mechanic and i was told i the axle is far beyond repairable. i spoke to the receptionist not the actual mechanic and i am a bit confused on whether she understands that i dont need a whole new axle just half; unless both sides are broke. she is also telling me that the axle will be $250+. if you could post the links to some good CV axles that i could use on my truck so that i do not have to go with her $250 option it would be much appreciated.

I can see it costing $250 at a shop, easily.

All you need is a "half-shaft assembly"

Check out rockauto like sxrsil3nt says. They have a variety of them from about $40 and up. Get a good one!
