Default Electric Radiator Fan 2004 3.7 Problem

Got caught in a traffic accident backup a couple days ago, and began overheating. Long story short, electric radiator fan isn't coming on when temp increases. I checked the motor, relay, fuse, all okay. I disconnected the temp sensor connection and started up, heat gauge pegs out and fan runs. It's a 2004 3.7 V6, it has a 40amp fuse in the box under the hood, no label for 10amp fuse in interior box. Checked all 10, 15, 20 amp fuses in interior box, nothing blown. What am I missing?? Would greatly appreciate any help,
Thanks.

P.S. Engine is fine, spent a lot of time by the road in cool down mode, temps outside was cool enough to make it home once I got out of traffic and could speed up.

Are you still running your clutch fan?

The electric fan runs when the a/c (or defrost) is on and also if the truck gets very hot BUT - you shouldn't be overheating with the clutch fan alone, especially if it's cool out.

From the FSM:

The PCM regulates fan operation based on input from the engine coolant temperature sensor and vehicle speed. The fan is not energized during engine cranking regardless of the electrical input from the engine coolant temperature sensor. However, if engine operating conditions warrant fan engagement, the fan will run once engine starts.

The fan is energized whenever the engine is running and engine coolant or transmission oil sump temperature is greater than 104° C (220° F) or air conditioning head pressure is greater than 32 kpa (220 psi). The fan will turn off when engine coolant or transmission
oil sump temperature drops below 102° C (216° F), or air conditioning head pressure drops to 24.6 kpa (170 psi).

To bad you cant reprogram the PCM to act like the 2.5 engine as the only cooling is by the efan I'm sure my efan turns on at lower temps the 2.5 has no mechanical cooling fan.

You can get ad on cooling efans that have thermostats that clip to the radiator or hardwire to a dash switch by a relay.

Am I the only one that thinks 216 is way too high for a fan-off position?

Wow!!! you're not going to believe this, but I don't have a clutch fan. I've had this truck about a couple months and it didn't have one on it when I got it!! I knew I had a lotta room in that area and it sure didn't look right with all that room. I'm always driving it to a small town with not much traffic and speeds at 65-70, the whole town is about 2 miles long and never much traffic, so not much driving at slow speeds. I replaced the water pump right after I bought it (bearings wore out) and it has the screwed fitting on the front for a fan clutch.... but no clutch or fan. I'm really excited now because this may be part of my transmission problem we talked about in the other thread. it may have been overheating?? Thanks a million, I'll be getting me a clutch fan now!!!!

Looked on line real quick at the usual places, just showing the clutch and electric fan for sale, no clutch available with the fan. I'll check the wrecking yards tomorrow for the fan.
I was thinking about not running hot when the outside temps were higher last month, but with the A/C on I guess the electric fan was doing enough. Thanks again 00DakDan and everybody, I'm very grateful!!!

Try here for an aftermarket fan http://www.jcwhitney.com/jcwhitney/t...412y2004g412j1

This one shows the bolts just no blade but you may be able to just go to homedepo to get them or any hardware store or auto parts store.

Not sure on those fan blades they don't list the years they fit I would call first then order if interested that is.

Well turns out I can get a fan clutch most anywhere, but an original type fan is a different matter. But, I can get an aftermarket performance type very easily, I just don't know what size to get. Does anyone know what size the fan is? The smallest NAPA has is 14". Thanks, I appreciate all the help.
