Do you have any codes? Do the key dance if you don't have a scanner.

How's the fluid level?

Is it a 2wd or 4wd - t-case in neutral maybe?

Do you hear any funny noises? Cycle it through all the gears manually and see if it will move in any.

Check the cable to the transmission - maybe it came off/failed.

if your talking bout the check engine light being on then no its not and if you talking bout a scanner for a tranny then no I don't but I do for the engine. the fluid is good and its a 2wd truck. I did the switching into all the gears and nope it wont even move an inch in reverse but the truck will move if its in neutral thou. ok ill check the cable but how would I tell if the cable to the transmission failed.

Sometimes you'll get a code for P0700 if there is a tranny fault.

On the cable, just follow the linkage down to the transmission and see if the lever moves when you change gears - OR - put it in "D" and try to start it. The neutral/safety switch is on the transmission. If it starts in "D" or someplace other than P or N it is out of adjustment.

The shift solenoids are in the transmission. You have to remove the valve body to replace them.

Could be an electrical fault, could be anything.

May be that the governor solenoid that opens to allow hydraulic pressure has become disconnected or just flat failed. What was the code for the engine light?

P0750 is the low/reverse solenoid. Was there one for the transmission Governor solenoid/sensor as well? Those are P1756, P1757, P0760, P1762, P1763, P1764, P1765, P0748, among others.
