Clutch pack retainer clips
Another issue on Dakota rear ends...anyone have a similar problem?
My 2003 2.53 diff had clips holding the clutch package together break, sometime between 60 and 100,000km (67K miles). They picked it up on full service just before the truck ran out of warranty at 100K. Apparently this is a known issue that the dealership should have picked up at the 60k service. The pins slipped out and carved a groove in the housing...fortunately not enough to require a change of complete rear end, but serious!...So far with 204K Km and change out of fluid every 50 K the gears are in nearly new shape. Most mileage is HWY and pulling a trailer.
