Speedo jumping around
I have a 97 Dakota automatic. The speedo is acting wierd it will work when I first start the truck. After a few minutes it starts jumping all over the place. I changed the speed sensor on the trendy but it hasn't fixed it. Any suggestions?
Does it still jump around when you're not moving?
The cluster is a computer. You could try to run a self test. With the truck off, press and hold the trip reset button then turn the key to ON. Hold the button in until CHEC shows in the odometer window. It'll sweep the gauges and test all the lights.
Do it when you know it'll be OK and then do it again when it's jumpy.
You'll get some 3 digit codes in the odometer window if there's a problem.

So the check engine light came on last night ant it was p0500. I changed the sensor on the tranny and rear diff. Check Engline Light came on but the speedo is still jumping around.
Dan it doesnt jump when its not moving either.

The CAB (controller, anti-lock brake) processes the signal from the speed sensors. Is the ABS light on?
It should have been the speed sensor on the diff that fixed the P0500 code.
Are the codes gone now?

So I have ran the check on the cluster and nothing came up. I've changed the output speed sensor on the Tranny and the ABS sensor on the rear diff. Check engine light is still on and the speedo still doesnt work. Any suggestions?
