Exclamation 1998 Dodge Dakota Alarm Reset.

Iv'e been having some trouble with my baby Chuck.
(1998 Dodge Dakota V6 2WRD)

The little red light on the left of the dash is flashing.
I'm hearing a clicking.
I got a new battery, Disconnected the alarm.
No power is reaching anything else in the truck.
No windows, lights, locks, even hazards.

I was wonder if anyone knew how to reset the security system.
So I don't have to get it towed to a mechanic and pay 3x just for them to press a couple buttons.

Any info will help. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Is this a factory alarm or aftermarket?

Nothing on the factory alarm will kill the accessories. It stops the fuel/ignition.

Check all the cables/grounds. The headlights should work no matter what.

You are likely going to find a bunch of "butchered" wiring under the dash. It probably isn't so much a problem with the truck but the alarm causing the problems. Removing it completely may be a start.

Something must have a manufacturers name on it.

I feel for ya I have the same problem butchered wiring from an alarm installer. Been lucky I just don't touch it and it works plus the Dealer fixed some of it for me without asking me to do it and didn't charge me anything a first. I think he fixed some of it because it was somehow attached to the passenger air bag system a Big NO NO.

I will never pay a shop to install a security system ever again they messed up so much wiring.

My system is Viper but its hard to tell as its just a logo molded into the one side hard to see.

Get a very bright flashlight and give things a look

Unfortunately you may be force to have a shop remove the system ask around for who recommends a good shop and hope they are good not hacks like so many of them are.

It seams like most installers are either young high school kids or down out losers/drunks that cant get any other job I'm not kidding.

I'm guessing the horn was disabled because the security system was acting up

Default Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh!

I tried diconnecting the battery, ive tried just turning on the hazzards the clicking stopps.
i turn on the lights the clicking stops.
the driver side reading light is kind of flickering when i open up the door
so power is no problem
when i press the reading light on
there is a very loud buzzing noise coming from the fuse box.
i opened it, and i turned out to be a green square that is buzzing.
i click the light again, it continues to flicker and the buzzing stopps
ive disocnnected the battery with the key in the ignition
wiout it in the ignition.
tried half turns.
nothing
i turn the key and it doesnt even make that one click noise anymore

i think the small green box that plugs into the fuse box is called a "Combination Flasher"?
why does it buzz like that?

I wish I could give you a better answer than "something is wrong" but I don't know what your alarm system is doing to your truck.

It sounds like it has killed power to most of the truck.

Without a make on the alarm it's all a guess.
