My '97 Dakota Sport with rear wheel only ABS had both ABS and check brake lights on when I went to pick it up from a shop a few months ago for work that had nothing to do with brakes.

The truck had blown the fuse under the hood. We replaced it, and it immediately blew the new fuse too. Since it was closing time and I could not leave the truck, I checked to see whether or not I had any brake lights on the truck when the fuse was blown. I did not. But I did have hazard flashers working, not sure why.

The shop gave me a few more fuses and I drove home with yet another new fuse in place, prepared to hit the flashers the second the ABS and brake lights came back on. They never did, and everything is still working just fine.

We still do not know what was blowing fuses. Perhaps they all were just bad fuses, but I doubt it. I still have a few extras in case this ever happens again.

Brake lights work great actually ; brakes feel 'normal' .. pulled the boat to the lake this weekend.. have not had a chance ot check codes.

and the previous question as far as i know its abs rear.. the front has no sensors like the abs hubs have.

Per the build sheet-

Pwr Disc/Drum Rr Anti-Lock Brakes

is all it says about brakes; but the front have no sensors at all on the hubs like the other Dakota models that do have front ABS; only the speed sensor on the rear of the transmission and on the rear axel..

I also dont trust this build sheet too much being it says i have rack and pinion steering which is not correct i have old school gear box arm style steering.

It says you have rear anti-lock brakes which fits your description. Yeah, it's screwed up with the rack and pinion part for sure.

Can you post a pic of your brakes/hcu?

Just got back from Autozone; no codes for any brake related issues.

So IM going to probally disconnect battery overnight and then see if it resets anything since there is nothing to clear.
