2001 Dakota 4.7 New Clutch issues
Ok so I just installed new clutch slave master cyclinder. Still the same thing. Very soft clutch and still cannot shift gears with engine on. I bled the slave alot and it would not get stiffer. Only option is to take it into a shop and have them fix it which I do not want to do.
Did you do anything to the original master/slave cylinder, disconnect it or anything when you changed the clutch?
If no, and are having the same problem now, there is the possibility that:
1. The parts you used were not correct - such as the pressure plate or clutch disc
2. Something is not installed correctly
Did you resurface the flywheel? Please say "no."

Just how did you bleed the slave as the units can not be bleed they are sealed units if pulled apart they will never work correct and give you many problems like a soft clutch no pressure.
So I ask just how did you bleed it??
The problem is if taken apart air gets in and cant get out as its a very tricky system air gets trapped inside and will not come out.

How times have I told people don't take it apart and what do they do take it apart then wonder why the clutch doesn't work.
What part of don't take it apart is hard to understand? Its sealed for a very good reason.
Old hydraulic systems could be bleed but not the new systems and trying to swap in a system that can be bleed will not work many on this forum have tried with very bad results.
Buying the one piece system is the only answer swapping in a slave that can be bleed doesn't work.

Not familiar with the clutch on a Dakota, but on some chevys, its possible to put the fork in the slot of the release bearing. If this is done, and not put on the back of the bearing, it will act as you described. Its soft and will not release.
This is your issue. Do NOT piecemeal the system. Get the whole damn thing from the dealer and be done with it.
