Default Do you have a,.....Performance Catalytic Converter ?

I'm replacing my exhaust and muffler with a stainless
Cat Back and l'm wondering to those who have replaced yours with a,......"Performance Catalytic Converter", if it made any difference in freeing up flow, thus gaining in HP, TQ, better performance and maybe fuel mileage ?

If you have, please explain with details, photo's, video, which brand did you buy and the pros & cons.

Thanks,
Kevin

If you don't have emissions inspections just replace it with pipe and weld a bung in.

That screws up the computer and will always have the idiot light on.
We don't have emissions here in Ne.

You can do the non-fouler trick for the O2 sensor. I don't recommend not running a cat, it stinks, real bad. just my 2 cents. I'm not a tree hugging environmentalist by any means, but I just believe cleaning up the exhaust on any vehicle is good. Depending on your trucks year and engine, a performance cat will free up the exhaust some. Don't expect any noticeable gains. Magnaflow makes a good one, as there are off brand "performance" converters which can be purchased off ebay.

I agree, but there's a big crease in the converter and rust has started, so that's why I'm looking into a performance one.

Right, and all I'm saying is don't expect much "performance" from installing a performance converter on a stock exhaust. Now, if you have supporting mods, free flowing intake and muffler, headers, y-pipe, etc, installing a performance converter on a stock exhaust would be a good compliment. Otherwise, save yourself the cost of a "performance" converter and replace it with OEM or universal.

I agree again. I built a Ford 427 Shelby Cobra replica, so I know what performance add on's & improvement's are all about. At least I hope so. lol

The factory mufflers inside the side pipes sucked !,....so my new one's are stainless and the mufflers only have louvers, which you can point forward for a little quitter, or backwards that make little difference, which is the way I went. It's loud, but what a sound !

Here's my Cobra and side pipes.

The originals from the factory sucked, as they were mild steel with a real bad applied ceramic coating that was all orange peal. The glass pack mufflers,...I blew out in two years.

For years, I made highly polished & tig welded, 304 stainless steel side pipes in a "kit form", for Cobras, Vette's and Hot Rods. The mufflers are "wedged in" so they will never pull out. Other makes have welded tabs, that break off and rattle like hell.

Mine are expensive, but they'll last you the life of your car,...or you. lol
