Default project dakota motor swap

Hi I got a 2001 dodge Dakota 4.7 5 speed 2wd single cab short box. Current mods before teardown for body restoration and drivetrain build was third cat delete tune welded diff stage 2 clutch 3:73s 3.75" drop springs rear shackle flip (4wd hangers and Silverado drop shackles) srt8 intake 2008 manifold superchip tuned. Never got to dyno i just drove it but January 1st was the last day it ran I drove it to work and ripped the motor out the 4.7 had a smoking issue starting if you let it idle and gave it gas it would smoke same way my 5.2 did with the lower plenum gasket I tore it down and bore rings good heads look good and all so I pushed it to the side cause I've been wanting put a new front clip on the truck fix my bed and paint it so apart it came so far body works 50% done got firewall fixed paint underneath painted when I took cab off had frame painted even though it still had brand new paint and barcodes on it front clips painted. Well now come my drivetrain issue.the 4.7 I can't afford to buy pistons and rods right now to make over 325rwhp so I've been looking at seeing how hard it would be to put a 5.2 in there I dont believe it would bolt up to my tranny so i was thinking of using a v6 2wd Dakota tranny computer harness and modifying it like you would for a v6 to v8 swap but does anyone know if it bolt on motor mount wise cause I can get a powerdyne kit for 800$ for a 5.2 and that be cheaper to get me where I want then boosting a 4.7 I believe I've seen 5.2 stock bottom ends handle 400+ rwhp

You'll need another transmission for starters. The 45re isn't compatible with a 5.2.

You'll also need a new PCM and wiring harness. You won't find one for an '01 with a 5.2. You're better off using one for a 5.9. The fuel trim won't be perfect though.

The mounts are different but you should be able to get a set easily.

The 5.7 hemi swap might be an easier option.

No 45re in my truck its 5 speed so I was gonna use a 2wd v6 tranny

Was gonna use a v6 5speed 2wd harness and add for injectors like you would for a 3.9 to 5.2/5.9 swap

Is the frame side the same with the single bolt like the 4.7

To expensive and rare around me.
This is what I was planning on goin this route just trying see if its gonna work

Look online for an engine rebuilder that provides a warranty... If you have to go through the work of changing the tranny wiring and computers I would look into the hemi swap.. Will provide far more power stock than a 5.2.. Considering the 5.2s make like 230hp to the crank where the hemi is about 320hp(year depending).. Guy on here a few years ago got a motor online and shipped to him for like 200.00.. I would at least look into it

I have and versus my price for both that's why I was going for 5.2 I already have access to 5.9 or 5.2 my choosing a v6 5 speed harness and computer and tranny I just gotta pull it. What I need to figure out is how do I modify the harness as someone would for a v6 to v8 swap. Are the frame side of the motor mounts the same. What would I order vehicle wise for tuning software it ask for year and all . And would it work fuel wise gauge wise etc.?

Any PCM you get has to be for an '01 or later. The gauges, including the fuel, run off of the PCM.
The frame is the same.

Currently can't find mounts that'll work for 5.2/5.9 I got single bolt to frame style used on 4.7s all the 5.2/5.9 mounts I find have several bolts to frame
What should I order for my sct software it ask vin motor etc.?

You need the whole bracket. It should be available.

Not sure about the SCT.
