2000 dakota sport 2wd 3.9l rear axle and gearing 60mph 2k rpms

Default 2000 dakota sport 2wd 3.9l rear axle and gearing 60mph 2k rpms

Just bought the truck not long ago the p.o. Swapped in a rear end from a 4x4 so the leaf springs are mounted to the top. I took it on the highway. Noticd at 60mph its up at 2k on the rpm guage. I assume this is do to it having a different gear ratio in the rear. O/d is working transmission shift good 112k on it.
Im assuming its suppose to be at or bellow 1500rpm.
rear drums are also larger i get an abs and brake light when i slam on the brakes (I almost hit four deer in the road because the rear is so high the lights are pointed at the road)
Any dissagreements or other things I should check?

Not sure where you're getting 1500 rpm. I cruise at 2000 rpm at 60. What is the gear ratio that you have? I have the 3.92's.

Thats interesting every other vehicle I have ever driven has been right around or under 1500rpm at 60mph. My dodge ram 1500 is even at 1500 rpm when at 60mph. Even all of my jeeps are. How I new my o/d unit wasnt working at all in my 1500 was that I was a little higher than that at 60mph. before this last transmission swap. Im not sure what gears are in this diff it doesnt come from this vehicle. Perhaps that is it and it has the 3.92s and im use to 3.55s and 3.72s. I wonder what the makes you run on mpg standards. Everywhere up here is 60 and above and I live an hour from the nearest town. If i went on the highway what would it be at 75mph? lol. perhaps the best thing to do would be cut the leaf spring brackets and weld them on the bottom.

It does make me wonder if I put in 3.55s how much better mpg I would get.

If the diff is a 3.92 I would keep it 3.72 possibly but a little gutless
