I have a 02 Dakota 6 cyl an am having g a horrible time getting one of the spark plugs out. It's closest to driver side in back..Top also has broke off too .It seems like it just wants to continue turning in a tight turn in either direction with no end..Ive applied PB blaster a lot alao.Any suggestions to getting this out?
Also does this sleeve around it come out?

 

Yes the sleeves pop out with a pair of pliers. You'll need a spark plug socket, extension, and ah hinged spark plug ratchet. Even then it's not easy..

Can i use that socket wrench with a swivel drive on the end (just a bar with the end that folds) an a socket ,after I remove the shield?
Seems that ratchet isn't very easy to get locally..

 

You can try, but you'll have to support the ratchet.

 

I removed fender well an went in from there.The hex part of plug detached from the thread base an the ceramic center along w hex came out.
Now I have the threads an tip in it .
I guess using a short easy out #5 would be my best option .
Any tips to make removal easier or best stuff to use on very rusted threads , an what's the best way to clean up any debris that may have fallen in head ..?

oh yes, i was assuming you had the fender liner out already. How long were the plugs in there? You're going to have one hell of a time getting the threaded spark plug base out of the head. I can't think of a single good way to do it with the engine/head still on the truck. Did you pull the plug out with the engine hot or cold?

 

I change my plugs every 3 years no matter plugs are cheap and in the rust belt stops problems like stuck plugs.

 

I did everything on a cold engine..will heat help ?
This was someone else's goof up I just found out. N o idea how long .All the others looked ok an came out fine.
I always use antiseize an change regularly.

It's good I got that out it was so very rusted.
I've PB blasted it overnight w rag in hole area ..The style easy out I have are very different in that they are short and fat and have a big socket fitting end on them..not the long #5 ..so breaking should be reduced a lot..
Will heat then cool help to change the pressure on threads so the PB blaster can work deeper ?
Ive seen videos of some applying torch to it but prefer not to if I can.

 

Just saw another post on this site using exact same technique with pipe extractor as I'm going to use an pb blaster ,√..
