2002 was a transition year so look at your PCM. How many wire connectors are there?

If you have 3 you are running a JTEC controller. It's a 16 tooth tone ring.
If you have 4 you are running the NGC controller. It's a 32 tooth tone ring.

The tone rings aren't compatible. There is one on the crank and one on the RH camshaft. The crank has to come out to swap.

Later years offer more "improvements" to power/torque/fuel economy.

Later years are more likely to be "better" in terms of horsepower and torque. There were changes to the cam and in later years they even had dual plugs.

You'd have to check the individual specs.

The 4.7 was also used in some Jeep vehicles and Ram pickups. The specs do differ some.

Will a 04 thru 12 4.7 work in my 02? Is there pcm or electrical differences to worry about?

Later years have 16 spark plugs but you can wire the coils together.

You need to check your PCM for the number of connectors before doing anything.

Physically the engines are the same dimensions but the intake/exhaust manifolds vary.
