Default Body swap question

I have a 200 Dakota 4x4 sport with a wrecked body(chassis is fine) and a 2004 Dakota SLT 2wd. Anyone know if the bodies on these 2 trucks can be direct swapped? I know I would have to change the floor console for the 4x4 shifter, but will the bodies match to the mounts without any modifications? Would love to get my 4x4 back without having to buy another one

as long as the cab configuration ( single, ext, double cab) is the same, 00 to 04 should be nearly straight forward **********

***** If either one has a 4.7 engine, you have quite the uphill climb, but it's not impossible. If both have the 4.7 or neither have the 4.7, then you have some options.

Both trucks are quad cab and both have the 4.7. What about the 4.7 makes this an uphill battle? I'm use to working on older muscle cars so a lot of this is a learning curve for me

The front differential ties into the engine mounts.

But would I need to mess with differential if I just want to take the 2wd body and put it on the 4wd chassis?

What are the years? You mis-typed in the original post.

The 4.7 makes it difficult because you're going to probably have to play musical wiring harness. If both PCM's have the same number of connections (3 or 4), you are gold. If one is 3 and one is 4.....you will have at least 6 hours of making things play nicely.

IF...IF IF IF you are lucky, you can leave the front clip alone and just remove the cab, and the chassis to cab connectors will be the same...doubtful, but maybe,

The 2000 is the 4wd with a smashed driver side. The 2004 is a 2wd with a body that's in great shape. The only reason I would like to switch the bodies is the 2000 I know everything about the truck and how it runs due to having it for so long and the 4.7 in the 2000 is considerably stronger motor of the 2 trucks (even though its a 4.7 in the '04)

You have to check the PCM's. pretty sure you are going to have to strip the electrical off both. If you're lucky, the chassis to cab harness will be the same and you can leave the interior alone (else you'll have to swap the cluster and other things).

You will have problems with the wiring. The 2000 uses the CCD bus, 2 wires. The 2004 is a PCI bus, 1 wire. The pcm's are different too. The '00 is JTEC - 16 tooth tone rings and the '04 is NGC - 32 teeth tone rings.

Even if you drop the whole body and wiring onto the frame, the tone rings will get you.

You can swap them but it requires pulling the crank.

That's what i was afraid of and alluding to. OP has two options: Either move the engine with the cab, or gut both cabs and do an interior swap.
