Disconnecting the 8 pin feller just disables electronics. If the trans behaves properly, then you know that mechanically, the trans is ok, and the problem is within the electronics. It could be something as simple as a bad connection in the circuits, to a failed sensor/solenoid. First step is, determining if it's mechanical, or electronic. So, try the test, see what happens.

You should have the O/D trans in there.... (four speed, with locking converter.)

Hello it has been a few months since I was in here. I did the test with the 8 pin plug and it was fine it was actually nice to drive it. I haven't been doing much so I am wondering what else I should look at. I did put a Gov solenoid and sensor in. The solenoid came refurbished so I am not sure about it. I seem to have this where I go to give it gas and if I hit it it seems to jump clear out of gear until I slack off and then it goes back in. It is like it doesn't hold at full abrupt pressure... Any advice will be gladly taken...

Refurbished???? I didn't even know those were available..... Don't think I would ever want to use them though......

So, replace them again.... Get the borg warner heavy duty solenoid/sensor set. (about 100 bucks on Ebay.) While you are in there changing them, adjust the bands as well. (at least, I *think* the 42RE has bands......)

Yes it has bands and I have been adjusting them.. I keep getting conflicting directions. I adjust to 73 inch lbs and then back off 2 turns is what I used the last time she was apart. I will grab another solenoid and sensor and is there anything else in there I should replace?? Hey and thanks it is nice to have some feedback as to what to do... God Bless!!

Yep, 72 inch pounds, and then back off two full turns.

If it isn't giving you any other trouble, then just do the governor stuff. If you are also having issues with TCC, or O/D, then doing those, along with the output speed sensor, wouldn't be a bad idea... But, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Default 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd with a 5.9ltr

So I know I have a less desired 5.9ltr motor in the Third Gen model... But from what I am told my transmission is still a 46re transmission... Can I use and older 2nd Gen 46re transmission in my 3rd gen? Trying to find a used one to get the truck back on the road while I can sort out rebuilding the original... Help me please as I am not familiar with any differences made in the 3rd gen 46re transmissions

Yes, 2000 or newer please. Otherwise, the electronics are not compatible. (but can be changed, if it comes to that.)

Wouldnt the electronics all be pretty easy to swap over... So complete transparancy here I have never been inside a Dodge transmission Been inside ALOT of chevy transmissions and Volvos...
