Default 46RE compatability

I've searched and can't really find an answer to my question. I have a 4x4 99 Durango 5.2 that we swapped the transmission from a 4x4 99 Durango 5.9, transmission works great. My son wrecked the Durango, Now I have acquired a 2 wheel drive 2000 dakota sport 5.9 that has some issues with the transmission. I know they are both 46RE transmissions, my question is can I swap the Durango trans into the Dakota? Can I swap the tail shaft casings and make it work?

Nope. Output shafts are different. In order to change those, you would basically be rebuilding the trans in any event, so, might just as well rebuild the trans that is in it.

edit: On second thought, you *might* be able to just swap the O/D units...... that may work.

That's what I have read, that I can swap the OD units and everything will work. I was just hoping to hear from someone who had possibly done it or tried it before.
