front driveshaft

Default front driveshaft

so after finding the cv-joint obliterated on my Dakota's front drive shaft , found a driveline shop that will replace it with a normal u-joint style instead, says does it a lot with this style driveshaft with no issues...

my question is... is there any disadvantage or problems to having a ujoint setup on the t-case side over the cv joint?

I know lotta vehicles don't require it but being AWD .... primarily front drive.. this is different then most ive seen ..

You have independent front suspension right? So, the front axle is solid mounted. That means that the d/s runs at a constant angle, doesn't need to deal with angle, or length changes as the suspension cycles. I really don't see it being a problem.

after looking at angle it actually runs the driveline shop dosent even see the need for a double cardan joint the angle is only a few degrees , and wonders why it required a cv joint to begin with, but in the end he said it it has vibration issues or anything he will simply try and rectify it, order a cv replacement or refund eitherway .. in the end it will still bolt right up to the stock 6 bolt round flange.. so no other changes will be required

Sounds like a plan. I agree with your shop. Likely the joint they used was simply cheaper than the double-cardan...... even if its only a few cents, when you are cranking out 100K or more of them, it adds up quick.

this was the outcome of scrapping the cv joint ... pic 1 is the replacement spicer 1310's greaseless and mounting to mount to stock t-case output..

sandblasted balanced and painted.. looks like a brand new shaft total cost was still cheaper then replacement shaft from rock auto and this is probably stronger then a cv joint.. who knows but atleast I can service this myself with a new u-joint if it does wear down..lol
