Dakota ABS issue
Hey y'all. I'm Jeff and I am new to the forum. I've owned nothing but Mopars for 40 years, and currently own 2 second gen Daks. A 99 2wd 3.9 automatic and a 04 4wd 3.7 5spd. I'll throw up some pics later, but right now I wonder if I can get some help. The 04 is in the shop with what the owner/lead tech is telling me is a stuck ABS dump valve. The new part having been discontinued from Mother Mopar, we went with used but are having trouble finding a good one. Does anyone here know where a new or re-manufactured valve can be found? Thank you in advance for any assistance.
Thanks for the quick response. I'm tied into the Mopar Parts site, but the part number has been discontinued and a follow up called to the dealer confirmed this. The local dealer network showed none and we, (the shop owner and I) are now searching nationally but after 3 days have had no luck.
I am assuming this is an RWAL unit. Reference my thread here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...g-diagram.html
Good news: This is more common than it should be.
Okay news: The unit is rebuildable (with some good know-how).
Bad News: The ABS on these trucks sucks anyways.
Remove the shield covers, lift up on the coil assembly. This reveals the solenoid plungers. Using a deep socket, remove the plungers from the ABS block. If they can't get a socket to fit right, I ended up using a pair of vise grips on the shaft itself.
You might have them look up an RWAL Kelsey-Hayes module for a Ram or RamVan. They are pretty much the same, but the shop may have to re-flare the brake lines...some are metric and some are english.
I took my valve all the way out and put a proportioning valve in, then used the old harness to put resistors across to turn off the ABS light.

Appreciate the good info Magnethead. Thought about the proportioning valve idea. Along that line I'm thinking something adjustable for the front/rear bias. Never been a big fan of ABS anyway. Thanks for the help!
I hear you. I prefer to exercise my pedal pressure via my left foot, but I'm sure there are situations where ABS might be useful especially on a slippery surface. I've found that for me, steering and a little acceleration can get me out of most bad spots.

It's cost me a few times when I needed the backs to lock and they didn't. I learned to throw my left foot on the E-brake pedal for those situations, and use my right foot for the front brakes.
