O/D light

Default O/D light
So my button on my 98 dakota shifter for O/D off doesnt work anymore but if I mover the shifter towards me it turns it on or off.
Can someone tell me whats wrong with it

Probably a short in the wiring for the button. All it does is complete a circuit from/to the PCM, to suggest it disable O/D.

Sounds like the wires are pinched in the column. Luckily they are not terrible to get to. Remove the clamshell from the column, the 2 wires come out of the shifter and go into a 2 pin plug as I recall.
