Some info you have a 2000 2.5 so you don't need to change the rad or condenser changed/swapped to use an older engine but the A/C compressor needs changed and A/C lines will need custom work done. Wiring and PCM will need changed for a 3.9 but that runs into other problems with compatibility between PCM years and the different timer modals very different.

Getting a same year 2000 3.9 for your 2000 truck is the least troublesome swap a 2000 up will give you problems also.

2nd gen means nothing as a 98 different 99 different 2000 different 2001 up different its like between 97 to 2004 each year was different in many ways.

So far anyone we talk to (small rural area) wants to do is a rebuild. They figure if you’re messing with a rod bearing, may as well do the whole rebuild. It doesn’t need to give me another 191,000 miles’

Real question is why it spun the rod bearing, if it's due to excessive clearance or an oiling issue. It wouldn't be impossible (but not neccesarily wise) to roll a new set of bearings in that rod, if it hasn't torched the crank...

This is all over my head but I will do some asking tomorrow at work. Anything else I should ask as to why the rebuild and not repair?

I cant now but will give you more info on a simple DIY rebuild and what you need but a complete rebuild is easy and not that expensive unless the crank is cooked.

It did not toss a rod but they're saying it will need a new crank.
And they figure as long as they are in there, just rebuild the sucker. Flush the radiator, all that good stuff. I should be good for another 5-10 years. And it IS cheaper than buying another vehicle. But who prepares for doing this? I didn't.

Yea I prepared a year in advance buying collecting parts trying to find quality parts and sending junk back and researching needed info.
I will try to put together a needed parts and price list you live in the USA correct?
