Default 3rd Gen Wheels on 2nd Gen, Tire Size?

Hi All,

I've got a 99 5.2 Sport. The Previous owner swapped out the rims for 3rd gen 16" rims. The current tires (175/65 16), needing replacement, rub a bit (slight) when turning when the wheel is at full right or left. I'm also not certain that my speedo is correct.

Can anyone suggest the correct size for new tires to keep correct speedo ratio and not rub?

Thanks a bunch!

It's more than just a rim swap. Second gen has six lugs, 3rd has 5 lug.

Okay, well, I have 6 lug. Maybe not gen 3.

Any idea on proper size? 255/65 16 maybe? About 2 inches shorter and a half inch narrower.

Get a build sheet for your truck from here. It will tell you what size tires were on it when it left the factory.

Any tire website will tell you the OEM tire size if you plug in vehicle details. Looks like your truck came with 15" wheels. Proper size if 16 should be 235/70-16 according to tire rack, which would rub even more. Is the truck lowered or something? (I plugged in as 2WD if it matters)

Jamb tag says 215/75 15. I used tiresize.com/calculator to do a comparison. Looks like 225/65 16 is darn near identical in width and height of oem, but on a 16" rim.

Think I'll go with that. Thanks all.
